One operating system.
The same operating history runs through five complementary practices: company building, clinical neuroscience, medical-device engineering, cellular neurobiology and computational research. Each member brings a distinct way to turn a physical intervention into a measurable biological claim.

José Rebollar
Olascoaga
An electronics engineer translating magnetic-field control, PCB architecture and medical-device constraints into dependable hardware.
José holds a master’s degree in science from CINVESTAV’s Bioelectronics Section and trained at Instituto Politécnico Nacional. His work spans circuit design, instrumentation and embedded electronics for magnetic-coil systems.
At Actipulse he designs PCBs for commercial neuromodulation devices and supports research collaborations across Mexico, France, Canada and the United States. He also contributed control electronics to Public Invention’s open Ferrofluid Pump project.

Adrien
Châtillon
A health-technology entrepreneur focused on making neurotechnology more accessible—and on turning scientific capability into scalable companies.
Adrien earned a Master in International Business from Grenoble École de Management in 2013. He is a serial entrepreneur who has founded more than three startups and lived or worked across more than eight countries.
He co-founded Actipulse Neuroscience in 2017 and led the company through Y Combinator’s Winter 2022 batch. His operating thesis is direct: build medical technology around access, affordability and practical clinical adoption.

Irina Vázquez-
Villaseñor
A neuroscientist connecting cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration with translational neuromodulation and CNS delivery research.
Irina trained in Clinical Biochemistry at Universidad de las Américas Puebla before completing an MSc and PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Sheffield. Her research examines oxidative DNA damage, neuronal cell-cycle dysregulation and senescence-like states in neurodegeneration.
Her work spans molecular biology, cell imaging and human neuropathology. As a senior researcher at Actipulse, she leads neuromodulation studies and coordinates international preclinical research focused on modulating the blood–brain barrier to improve drug delivery.

Gabriel
Villafuerte
A physician-neuroscientist working across neuromodulation, neurodegeneration and the translation of brain research into usable devices and protocols.
Gabriel graduated with honors from the UNAM Faculty of Medicine and completed a doctorate in neuroscience at UNAM after research in neuroimmunology and neural plasticity. His doctoral work examined conscious olfactory perception and orbitofrontal-cortex modulation.
At Actipulse he has led scientific and clinical work on low-intensity transcranial magnetic stimulation. Peer-reviewed studies bearing his authorship include a 2021 six-month Alzheimer’s pilot and a 2025 randomized crossover study reporting transient gamma-oscillation modulation.

Javier Emilio
Bazán Sánchez
A developer and independent researcher working at the intersection of computational neuroscience, artificial intelligence and reproducible scientific tooling.
Javier is affiliated with the Department of Cognitive Neuroscience at UNAM. His public research spans hippocampal remapping, cell-resolved neural responses, cross-laboratory EEG validation and mechanistic analysis of artificial neural networks.
He served on the organizing committee of the first Latin American Symposium on Philosophy of Computation at UNAM and contributed to Mexico’s National AI Agenda 2030. His work connects code, open datasets and experimentally testable questions about biological and artificial systems.

Actipulse centered on therapeutic neuromodulation. Apertum applies the team’s device, clinical and regulatory experience to a different bottleneck: temporarily changing the access condition around a systemic therapeutic while keeping the therapeutic itself unchanged.
